An exploration of the standards of beauty imposed on African-American girls today.

I have a love of traveling, which affords me the opportunity to meet new people and explore other cultures. My goal is to develop more projects that will help my community and give a much needed voice to issues that pertain to people of color. I am currently attending Urban Academy, a NYC public high school, and I live with my mother in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.




Brandon K12LTSP Laptop Carts

A while back I built a rolling laptop cart for old laptops we had at the school that were pretty useless trying to run Windows, but work wonderfully as thin clients. With 12 laptop stations adding to the existing 5-9 thin clients in each classroom, we can provide a class with an instant 1:1 ratio for activities like creative writing, research, etc.

The perception that girls in sub-Saharan Africa cannot cope with science, mathematics and technology subjects persist. This perception is sustained by examination results that continue to show boys in secondary schools performing better than girls in SMT subjects. It is also strengthened by the persisting low numbers of women in the faculties of science, engineering and medicine in nearly all universities in sub-Saharan Africa.

Implemented in 74 countries at over 7,000 sites, educators implementing LVEP report positive changes in teacher-student relationships and in student-student relationships both inside and outside the classroom. Educators note an increase in respect, caring, cooperation, motivation, and the ability to solve peer conflicts on the part of the students. Aggressive behaviors decline as positive social skills and respect increase. LVEP helps educators create safe, caring values-based atmospheres for quality learning.

Today’s citizenship lesson is on "victims of crime". Using press clippings, video footage and questionnaires, the teacher, Marcus Bhargava, aims to give the topic relevance to students’ lives. Citizenship classes are a favourite at Pimlico school in Westminster, London. Few schools are as successful when it comes to teaching this relatively new subject.

‘Language of the month’ celebrates the different backgrounds of the school’s pupils, encourages understanding of other cultures and gives the children an opportunity to communicate in a different language each month. The scheme introduces everyone at the school to some of the 40 languages spoken in the school community with children as young as 4 able to express themselves in different languages.

Re-Mission video game and online community of young people with cancer

Re-Mission is a challenging, 3D "shooter" with 20 levels that takes the player on a journey through the bodies of young patients with different kinds of cancer. Players control a nanobot named Roxxi who destroys cancer cells, battles bacterial infections, and manages realistic, life- threatening side effects associated with the disease.

The activity consists of summoning senior citizens who have vocation and desires to read stories for children. These people, trained by specialized personnel, get together with children in many schools of the metropolitan area of Resistencia.
